The Old School

This is a 'Very Special Property'. A huge converted old School with four very large en-suite bedrooms, state of the art kitchen and a 40ft lounge with large Gothic fire place, stunning staircase and Galleried mezzanine floor.

SITUATION Bolventor is easily reached from the A30 at 'Jamaica Inn' and is 20 minutes from either the north or south coast, or 10 minutes from both Bodmin and Launceston. The wide sweep of Bodmin Moor is well-known to all those who drive to Cornwall as the A30 runs right through the middle.

Perched up above the road with spectacular views over the moors, there are a clutch of houses, one of which was once the village school. The location is ideal, with the delights of the north coast one way and the south coast another. The Eden Project is close and a drive to St Ives or Land's End is no more than an hour.

TO DO The Old School is away from the crowds but is nevertheless well positioned for many tourist attractions. A drive of only fifteen minutes will bring you to the beautiful, unspoilt beach of Crackington Haven and there are many more lovely beaches near by. Twenty miles South lies the city of Plymouth which offers excellent shopping and entertainment for all the family, including the National Marine Aquarium.

Within an hour's radius are National Trust houses, beautiful gardens (such as the Lost Gardens of Heligan), the Eden Project, walks on Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor. There is the breathtaking Camel cycle trail, Sterts Art Centre with open air theatrical productions and it is only a 15 minute drive to the golf course at St Mellion. Trethorne Leisure Farm is a great family day out and only five minutes drive away, where there is also an eighteen hole golf-course. There are good riding schools nearby, and sailing and windsurfing on a reservoir five minutes away. Paintballing, canoeing, rock-climbing and microlight flying are all available in the area.

Jamaica Inn, made famous by Daphne du Maurier, is literally across the road, with the best food in Cornwall and a superb museum.

ACCOMMODATION Typical of a Victorian schoolhouse, the walls are dressed granite with a high pitched slate roof over the eaves. The enormous sitting-room has walnut flooring (with under-floor heating) and two vast original windows at either end allow the light to pour in. This is a stunning room with an open fire and furnished in a contemporary style. From here, a wooden staircase leads up to a galleried landing above. Walk through this room and the well-equipped kitchen / diner is almost the same size, with slate flooring and the odd area of under-floor heating by the sink and the large central island, so if preparing a culinary delight or doing the washing up, your feet will be warm. For those unfortunate souls who have to work while on holiday there is a small office with a connection for laptops. The spacious bedrooms have their own bathrooms and the master bedroom in particular is gorgeous. With a large patio overlooking the moor and the landscaped grounds around the house, this is a truly wonderful property for two families or a group of friends.
