You’ll will find you are in a unique world. 25 restful acres of it to be precise, set between Exmoor & Dartmoor, with Moors, Valleys etc., a good starting point for your holiday. Ideal for touring Devon and Cornwall if you wish, with Moors, Valleys etc... We are a good starting point for your holiday. With in easy exploring distance you will find Watersmeet, Knightshayes Court, Rosemoor Gardens, the moors and the little shops of Barnstaple. Furthermore the acclaimed Eden project is only 90 minutes away in Cornwall. In spring time, the cliff paths are quiet with the daffodils and primroses in abundance.

Barnstaple in bloom is a must in Summer, with the gardens at Rosemoor in wonderful colour. In Autumn the leaves are at their best colour, with the beaches a lot quieter for those who like to walk. In Winter the log burners are blazing at “West Down” and the Village Inns, making it a time for the peace and quiet to relax.

With well equipped spacious en-suite rooms, large gardens and grounds all set in 30 tranquil acres on the edge of Exmoor we are ideally situated for touring. So come along and visit.

Situation We are 32 miles from the M5 Junction 27, located mid way between Barnstaple and Torrington near the village of Atherington. Our nearest local train station is Umberleigh - 5 minutes. The nearest mainline stations are Tiverton Parkway (30 miles - 3/4 hour), nearest airport is Exeter (40 miles away - 60 mins), nearest ferry port is Plymouth (65 miles away - 90 mins away) and nearest National Express bus stop is South Molton (8 miles away).

Accommodation: All our guest rooms are en-suite. Each of the spacious Double Rooms and the Twin room, have their own special unique designs for your comfort, with plenty of character offering a warm ambience with fabulous views. All rooms are well equipped with a coloured television, tea making facilities, hair dryer, iron and many little extras to make your stay memorable. New for 2007 - Ground Floor / wheelchair accessible Rooms. The Swallow Room is equipped with Twin beds (can be converted to a large double), remote controlled TV & DVD combi, tea & coffee facilities and many more extras for your comfort. Your en-suite is a spacious wet room consisting of shower with seat, etc - ideal for wheelchair / and limited mobility. The Woodpecker Rooms consists of a large king size bedroom with interconnecting door to a single room (also can be made into a twin or double ), with a separate entrance to the en-suite facilities which consists of bath and shower facilties. The rooms offer a excellent view across the valley and are equipped with remote T.V DVD combi, along with many extras.

Meals A 4 Course Evening Meal with Wine and Aperitif for £18.00. An aperitif of your choice is served in the lounge before dinner, wine served with your meal is included in the price of dinner. All our vegetables where possible are grown fresh in our own garden or frozen fresh from the garden for use out of season. Our sweet trolley is made up of 3 or 4 sweets made by us at “West Down” and all served with clotted cream. A full West Country breakfast is a good start to the day with a full range of cereals, juices, breads and toast. Vegetarian options are provided and special diets are catered for with prior notification.
