Property code: DAICO

One of four former barn conversions that enjoy views across picturesque lakes, moorlands, and the rolling hills of Caradon.

Find lakeside peace in a gorgeous converted barn blending traditional farmhouse feel with modern comforts. Just a mile from the edge of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which straddles the Devon/Cornwall border, 3 miles north of Callington, this family-friendly property is an ideal base for exploration into both counties. Sink into holiday relaxation as you sip a sundowner on the bench overlooking the lake.

One of a family-run complex of four properties, Dairy Cottage occupies one end of the original barn, built in traditional local stone with a slate roof, and set in beautifully planted gardens. Extended families booking multiple properties can enjoy a hassle-free time away together. The layout is quirkily upside down, with spacious bedrooms downstairs and an open-plan kitchen/living area above to give great views over the gardens and lake. The natural wood flooring, solid wood furniture, exposed beams, and simple whitewashed walls create a harmonious balanced feel. An array of games are available in the shared garden such as croquet, football, basketball, swing ball, balls, soft tennis, hula hoops and frisbees.

On your doorstep, fishing around the estate's lakes is available, and there's a pub nearby. There are many delightful walks and cycle routes along the Tamar Valley, from postcard-pretty villages to fantastic pubs. Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor beckon with more rugged walking country. Or take in a seaside town – Looe, 20 miles away on the South Cornish coast, or picturesque Boscastle within 25 miles on the North Cornish coast. Plymouth is only 20 miles away, and has wide shopping and dining options, as well as attractions like the National Marine Aquarium in the Barbican district.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

The site was ideally located to visit both Cornwall and Devon. A lot of the roads are quite narrow, but ok with care. The fishing lakes were reasonable and close to the property. Owner very friendly and knowledgeable.

Note: As the postcode is used to identify the general area of the property, it may not always reflect its precise location, therefore please only use this map as a guide.

North Cornwall

Embark on clifftop wanderings along the South West Coast Path to discover ancient myths and legends; King Arthur at Tintagel Castle, or the giant at the Bedruthan Steps. Surfers flock here to ride the famous swell that carved the dramatic coastline, and Bude and Newquay are havens for the sport. From sandy bays and beaches to the seafood delights of Padstow or thrills of Camel Creek Adventure Park, North Cornwall is brimming with things to do; trails to trek, cream teas to gobble, and adventure to be had.

West Cornwall

Let the history, romance and raw beauty of West Cornwall whisk you through time, into rocky coves and along sweeping sands to Land’s End where the UK slips into the Atlantic. Discover an oasis of flora owed to the rare geology of the Lizard peninsula. You can kayak around Godrevy Island, wander the galleries of St Ives, catch a performance at the open-air Minack Theatre, and still make it to Marazion for dinner: St Michael’s Mount makes the ultimate backdrop.

South Cornwall

Tucked away from the swell of the Atlantic pretty fishing harbours sleep, and lush carpets of greenery roll up to craggy cliffs. Discover the fishing and smuggling history in Kingsand and Cawsand, or walk the South West Coast Path from Fowey to the tiny tidal beach at Readymoney Cove. Sample local ales in St Austell before visiting Charlestown’s tall ships, the enchantments of the Eden Project, or The Lost Gardens of Heligan. From vibrant towns to secret beaches and exhilarating days out, the south has it all.
