Harbourside villages illuminated in sparkling light, food festivals allowing a chance to sample some of the best food and drink around, and huge events at the region's biggest family attractions – there are plenty of Christmas events in Cornwall this year!
Cornwall is a magical place all year round, but its Christmas events are always the icing on the year-shaped cake, with magical moments in every nook and cranny of the county.
Here are 10 highlights to look forward to this year:
What are they? Simply put, the tiny village's Christmas lights display is Cornwall's best! They have become legendary over their 54 years, with more than 7,000 sparkling illuminations lighting up the harbour. There's a theme, and sea serpents, whales and fishing boats will all be twinkling by (and in!) the water. What's even more alluring about it, is that it's all thanks to volunteers and donations – meaning the switch-on event is a real community affair.
When are they? From December 16th 2018 to January 4th 2019 (with the exception of 19th December, when the lights will be dimmed between 8pm and 9pm).
What is it? Trerice House, a National Trust property near Newquay, goes back in time to the Tudor period this winter, with two wonderful banquets. Experience the festive time "in 1753", at a night filled with three delicious courses, live entertainment, music and song from a bygone era.
When is it? November 23rd and December 21st
What is it? As always, there will be plenty of Christmas cheer at Newquay Zoo in December. The attraction is open every day during the festive period except Christmas Day and, if previous years are to go on, there will be live music from Newquay Band and others, while Father Christmas himself will read some Christmas classics. There's also usually a special candy cane trail which, if completed, allows some special prizes!
When is it? 16th and 17th December.
What is it? The Eden Project introduces a new after-dark Christmas experience this year, alongside opportunities to meet Father Christmas and to go ice skating. Santa's Grotto is definitely one to enjoy, with an opportunity to see “behind the scenes” – including elves' beds and stockings ready for Christmas Day. The after-dark experience promises to be quite the spectacle, with giant projections, playful light sculptures and live music.
When is it? Selected dates between 24th November - 30th December.
What is it? This re-telling of the classic fairytale will be told by the very talented cast and crew of Miracle Theatre at Falmouth's Princess Pavilion. Expect to be taken on a spellbinding journey through Cinderella's turbulent life as she seeks to find her Prince Charming.
When is it? 16th to 31st December 2018
What is it? One of Cornwall's most vibrant Christmas Fairs returns to the Eden Project in November, offering an early chance to start your gift-buying while raising vital funds for Cornwall's cancer patients. Last year's fair raised a whopping £57,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, with stallholders donating 15% of their takings to the charity.
When is it? 8th November
What is it? The popular festival has become a must-visit on the Cornish Christmas calendar, bringing around 30,000 visitors to the fishing port every year. Expect to see demonstrations from celebrity chefs including Michael Caines, Angela Hartnett and Rick Stein, along with other culinary delights. The town's lights will also be up from late November, meaning you'll be seeing Padstow in all its festive glory!
When is it? 6th to 9th December.
What is it? One of Cornwall's best-loved markets hosts a weekend of festive entertainment, with hand-picked traders including some of the best local food and drink producers. It's a great time to start your Christmas shopping too, as a range of boutique shops and arts and crafts creators will offer plenty of gift inspiration throughout the town.
