Recreate a romantic scene from Poldark

Porthgwarra Cove

Fans of Poldark will instantly recognise Porthgwarra Cove in West Cornwall as the setting of one of the most infamous lust-filled scenes from the BBC One series. It is here in this secluded, unspoilt cove that Ross took a skinny dip in the crystal-clear waters while being secretly watched from the clifftops by Demelza. Tucked away just around the coast from Land’s End, this former fishing cove is surrounded by wildflowers and birdlife, and renowned for sending hearts aflutter. Recreate the iconic scene with a swim of your own, before warming up with a hot chocolate in the seasonal Porthgwarra Cove Café, which also refuelled the cast and crew during filming.

Make a wish at St Michael’s Mount

St Michael's Mount

If you’re thinking of popping the question, a visit to St Michael’s Mount in Marazion is a must. When the tide is out, stroll hand in hand across the causeway where a legendary giant once walked or sail across by boat to reach this famous tidal island crowned by a medieval castle and church. After pausing for a traditional cream tea in the restaurant, climb to the summit and find the highest point of the Mount’s bedrock which can be seen to the side of the ancient church. According to Cornish legend, a romantic wish made touching this stone will be granted, especially before a proposal to marry!

See a show at the Minack Theatre

Minack Theatre

Pack a picnic and cuddle up next to your loved one for an outdoor performance at one of Cornwall’s dreamiest date night spots. Carved into the granite cliffs of Porthcurno Bay, the Minack Theatre is arguably one of the UK’s most famous open-air theatres. During the spring and summer, couples can watch the stage come alive with plots of passion, lust and romance, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Atlantic. As the sun begins to set and the stars twinkle above you, wrap yourselves up in a cosy blanket and enjoy one of the most romantic places in Cornwall.

Go wild swimming at Golitha Falls

Golitha Falls

Golitha Falls on Bodmin Moor has all the ingredients for love and romance. One of the most dazzling beauty spots in Cornwall, this group of waterfalls makes up part of the River Fowey, as it weaves its way through the ancient Draynes Wood. In summer, the sun dapples the shade of the oak and beech woodland and in spring, the pathways are lined with swathes of bluebells. Take the plunge into the secret pool at the bottom of the cascades with its sandy riverbed - just keep an eye out for fairies and piskies who could be playing gooseberry!

Watch the sunrise from the top of a tor

Helman Tor

Nothing quite beats the romance of watching the first golden glints of a sunrise so if you are early risers, lace up your walking boots and hike across the wild landscape of Bodmin Moor to discover Helman Tor. This little-known peak of 686ft was once home to a Neolithic hill settlement and is now managed by Cornwall Wildlife Trust as a nature reserve. Clamber to the summit of this granite ridge and watch the sky transform from an inky blue to a beautiful tapestry of oranges, yellows and pinks. Across this vast moorland, look out for the iconic sights of Brown Willy, Rough Tor, Bodmin Beacon, and even the coast on a clear morning.

Share a brief encounter on a steam train

The Bodmin and Wenford Railway

We think one of the most romantic things to do in Cornwall is to enjoy a magical journey together onboard a vintage steam train. The Bodmin and Wenford Railway is Cornwall’s only full-size railway still operated by steam locomotives and offers a nostalgic 13-mile round trip through the picture-postcard countryside. Delight in a romantic meal in vintage style on the luxurious First-Class Dining Train, indulge in an afternoon tea on one of the Steam and Cream services, or chug along on one of the popular Steam, Beer and Jazz trains which include a fish and chips supper.

Enjoy some romance on the waves

sea safaris in Cornwall

There is always something romantic about being on the water and with over 400 miles of coastline in Cornwall, there are plenty of opportunities for couples to find their sea legs. If you want to go in search of some wildlife, join a sea safari trip from one of the many harbours along the coast. Falmouth, Padstow, Newquay, St Ives and Penzance all offer daily cruises to see seals, dolphins and sharks in their natural environment. You could even book your own private voyage for two.
