Visit Polruan

If it’s a holiday by the water you’re after, Polruan is the perfect destination for you. Set on a steep hill, the ancient fishing village is bound on three sides by water: Pont Creek to the north, the River Fowey to the west and the English Channel to the south. A Local's Guide to Polruan

An ancient fishing village with a long history of boat building, Polruan is situated on the Polperro Heritage Coast. This village in South Cornwall has a distinct charm about it with many old buildings along the quay.

The prettiest harbours in Cornwall

We’ve rounded up a fantastic selection of the best harbours in Cornwall to entice you to get some fresh sea air at one of these amazing spots.

A picture-perfect village

Situated at the mouth of the River Fowey, Polruan is your quintessential picture-perfect fishing village with cottages rising up with the hillside and small boats floating in the water beneath.

You’ll be well-placed for a visit to popular town Fowey when on holiday here. The Polruan Ferry crosses the river to Fowey every 15 minutes throughout the year, and is one of the best ways in and out of the village. Over in Fowey, you’ll be able to enjoy its many pubs, restaurants and cafes, while the town’s shops, museum and aquarium are also worth a visit.

Back in Polruan, make sure you visit the characterful pub, The Lugger Inn, offering sea views from every window. Fresh seafood and Fowey estuary mussels are always on offer, as are Cornish ales, ciders and other locally sourced food.
