Ghosts and ghouls, mermaids and high-class surf

Visit Sennen

Think of Sennen and the words ‘cove’ and ‘surf’ will probably spring to mind. However, there’s so much more to see and do in the village, including private art galleries, and some great cafes and restaurants, all of which contribute to the thriving community. Sennen Cove, the beautiful and popular beach, has a harbour, for boat trips and fishing, while the waves at this beach are some of Cornwall’s best for surfing.

Wildlife watching in Cornwall

With miles upon miles of unspoilt coastline and range of diverse habitats, Cornwall is one of the best places in the British Isles to see marine mammals, sharks and seabirds from the land and sea. But with dozens of places around Cornwall’s coast where you can spot wildlife in action, where are the best locations to get up close and personal with the giants from the deep, or the best time of year to go birdwatching or seal spotting?

A local’s guide to St Ives

St Ives in West Cornwall is a beautiful cultural hub that draws artists and families alike to its sandy shores. The famous Tate Gallery sits in the centre and is surrounded by cafes and eateries sit behind the beaches.

A fantastic backdrop

Land’s End is just around the corner from Sennen, and is the most south-westerly point of the mainland. A scoot along the coast brings you to the Lizard, Cornwall’s most southerly point. This whole magical area is tied to legends of ghosts and ghouls, pixies and mermaids and tales of mythical creatures that warn of the bad weather and impending doom! On the subject of theatricals, the wonderful open-air amphitheatre, The Minack Theatre is close by with the fantastic backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.

In Sennen itself, there are restaurants and cafes serving fresh and locally-sourced dishes, and friendly pubs for a cheeky pint following a dip in the sea, while the thriving community supports several local schools, including the sought-after Humphry Davy School.
